Nursery School News

Openings remain in our 3-day afternoon class benefiting children who will be four by September 1, 2010.  If you know of anyone who is still looking for a pre-school, please share our name and info.  Call 610-759-3393 or check us out on the church’s website –www.sjuccnaz.org. We can be found under the church’s ministry tab.

HeBrews Cafe Opens

Need a place to hang out while your children are in Church School?  Need to chill while your spouse is in Maranatha rehearsal or bell warm-up?

Come to the HeBrews Café.  Open 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. every Sunday in the Council Room (aside of the kitchen). Come enjoy good (really!) coffee and some munchies.  Hang out, chat with others, bring the newspaper.

No need to trudge all the way to Wegmans or Starbucks.  The HeBrews Café is the place to go.

“In the Beginning”

Gathering & Celebration in the Sanctuary for…

Preschool thru 8th grade & their families will meet in the Sanctuary and sit with their respective classes. Grades 9-12th will have a “Tailgating Party” in the parking lot.

Caregivers Support Group

Our new Caregivers Support Group will meet on Tuesdays, beginning September 14th thru October 26th, from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. in the Wotring Parlor.  We welcome men and women who may be caring for a loved one with a complex/chronic illness and/or any mental/physical challenge.  Come and explore practical ideas and helpful tips.  Sharing similar life experiences in a confidential and trustful atmosphere will encourage you and give you hope and inspiration.  Consider an afternoon once a week for YOU to replenish and restore.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact BrendaLee at 610-759-0893.

Sacred Voices Concert

St. John’s Sacred Voices in Concert
Sunday, September 26, 2010 ~ 4:00 p.m.
“The British Are Coming!”– Composers to the King

Susan Frickert, our Director of Music, will conduct the forty-five Sacred Voices, accompanied by strings, brass, timpani and organ.  Immediately following the “British Royal” Concert, a reception with the theme of an English Tea will be hosted in the Gallery by Amy Krug and members of the Music Committee. Ticket Donations are $8 and will be available in the Gallery following worship services beginning on Sunday, September 12; from the church office; or at the door the day of the concert.

St. John's Choirs are Back

St. John’s Choirs are Back in Action for the Fall Season!
Weekly rehearsals begin again soon – check out the starting dates:

Jr. Choir  - Thursdays, starting September 9th, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for 1st through 6th grades (younger children by permission of the director)

StarSong - Sundays, *6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. for 7th through 12th grades
A Kick-Off Pool Party will be held Sunday, September 12th, 2:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Maranatha Singers rehearse Sundays, starting September 12th,
from *9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Cantabile Singers rehearse Tuesdays, starting September 7th,
from *7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (except for 2nd Tuesdays)

St. John’smen rehearse Saturdays, starting September 11th,
from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Sportsmen/Women's Meeting

Bring a Friend to the next Sportsmen/Women’s Meeting, which will be held on Wednesday, September 22nd at 7:00 p.m.  A variety of topics will be discussed.

Church Birthday Calendar

We are again sponsoring the Church Birthday Calendar for 2011.  The cost will be $3.00 plus $0.25 per name.  Forms are available in the Gallery – submit the form to the church office or to Ruth Anderson by November 7th.  Payment is due when order is placed and checks may be made payable to St. John’s U.C.C.

Confirmation

Letters have been mailed to those teens who have been active in the Church School program in this past year.  They have been invited to participate in the confirmation process.  Any other teen who wishes to receive information about the confirmation program should contact Pastor Dave.

Social Concerns Meeting

PLEASE NOTE:  The Social Concerns Committee will hold its September Meeting on Monday, September 20th at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Room.

Ken Medema In Concert

Ken Medema will be in Concert at Union UCC, Neffs on October 31st from 3:30 to 5:30p.m.  Ken has designed an afternoon for us (young and old)!  He has over 32 years performing for 50-50,000.  Using his gift of improvisation, through themes and events from the audience, he sings back stories to them.  Tickets:  $10 for adults; 10 and under $5.  Contact Marge Baltz for tickets!

Church Library

You may now borrow books from several shelves of Spiritual Novels by noted authors. Just please remember to return the books within one month.
