Introduction

St. John's UCC Nursery School has provided a nursery school program for the Nazareth Community since 1969. Our goal is to provide a program in a Christian environment for the pre-school child, including a variety of activities that are age appropriate and are considered to be a process in developing the whole child. It is our hope that children will learn and grow socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually by providing experiences that meet their needs and stimulate learning. We wish to develop a child's self-esteem, inspire self-confidence and positive feeling toward learning.

St. John's UCC Nursery School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies and other school-administered programs.

Classes

Our program is designed to help facilitate growth within two age groups. We hold morning and afternoon classes on:

Tuesdays and Thursdays for children who are three and four. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for children who are four and five.

We also accept children in our M-W-F program who may meet the cut off for kindergarten, but who may not be developmentally ready to attend.

Morning classes run 9:00 to 11:30 am and afternoon classes run 12:30 to 3:00 pm.

Term and Class Times

Our regular school year term is a complete eight month program. It begins in September on the Monday following the Labor Day holiday and concludes in early May according to the September starting date to complete a month.

We also provide an opportunity to enhance a child's education, skills and social life during the summer months. Optional eight week summer sessions begin the Tuesday after Memorial Day and conclude at the end of July. Classes are held 9:00 to 12:00 am Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week. Children who are three through five years of age and have completed a nursery/preschool year either with us or another school are invited to attend.

Staff

The staff members are professionals who are trained in early childhood education and/or related fields. They are qualified, dedicated and caring individuals who provide a nurturing environment as well as the stimulation and education necessary for the child's development. Each staff member has longevity with the school and are friends as well as co-workers. They each have individual talents that help to keep the flow of the day moving smoothly and effectively.

The director, Jane Radio, began as a teacher's aide in 1992 and while completing her Associate degree in Early Childhood Education she co-taught in the three-day morning classes. In 1997 she took on the position of head teacher of the three-day program and director of the school. She is married and the mother of three children.
